Wealthy Affiliate in Brief

Wealthy Affiliate is one of the longest-running affiliate marketing platforms online. It was founded in 2005 by Kyle Loudoun and Carson Lim, and it teaches a website-based model: build a niche site, publish helpful content, rank in search engines, and earn commissions from the products you recommend. Unlike most programs we review, it is a monthly membership with hosting and tools included, not a one-off course with a big upsell ladder.

In 2026, the platform looks different from the version described in older reviews. The pricing page now lists four plans (Starter, Builder, Premium and Premium Plus+), each with a monthly allowance of AI credits for content creation. Below, we cover what each plan includes, the strict refund rule, the long-standing criticisms, and who should choose Wealthy Affiliate over a faster, lower-cost start.

Who Runs Wealthy Affiliate?

Kyle Loudoun and Carson Lim co-founded Wealthy Affiliate, and Ippei dates its creation to September 2005. Both founders have long been the public faces of the platform, writing training content and posting updates for members. That longevity is one of Wealthy Affiliate's strongest points. Very few make-money-online programs have operated under the same name, with the same founders, for two decades.

The company's history has not been free of conflict. Ippei reports a 2015 defamation lawsuit brought by MOBE, a program the FTC later shut down, which Ippei says cost Wealthy Affiliate about half a million dollars to defend. That case involved criticism of MOBE, not complaints against Wealthy Affiliate's own customers.

How Wealthy Affiliate Works

The model is slow but steady by design:

  1. Choose a niche you can write about, such as a hobby, a problem you have solved or a product category.
  2. Build a website on the platform's hosting with its site builder.
  3. Research keywords people search for and write helpful articles, now assisted by AI tools.
  4. Join affiliate programs that fit your niche and add links where they genuinely help readers.
  5. Keep publishing and improving content so search traffic grows over months.

The benefit is that search traffic, once you earn it, costs nothing per visitor. The drawback is time. Ranking content in Google usually takes months, and results depend on the competition in your niche and the quality of your content.

Wealthy Affiliate Plans and Prices (2026)

Here are the plans listed on Wealthy Affiliate's pricing page in October 2026:

Wealthy Affiliate Membership Plans
PlanMonthlyYearlyWebsitesAI Credits
Starter$0Free1 practice site4,000 starter credits
Builder$29$290120,000 per month
Premium$49$490340,000 per month
Premium Plus+$99$9905100,000 per month

Extra websites cost $9 a month each on paid plans, and AI credit top-ups start at $20 for 20,000 credits. Every plan includes two email accounts per site and access to the platform's AI channels and agents. The number of daily messages to its AI assistant, "Ace," rises with each plan.

How Pricing Has Changed

Older reviews quote different tiers. eBizFacts, updated in January 2025, listed Premium at $49 a month or $497 a year, Premium Plus at $99 a month or $697 a year, and a Premium Plus Accelerated plan at $299 a month or $2,497 a year. AffMaven described a $49 Premium plan with up to 50 websites. If you read an older review, check the current pricing page, because the structure has changed more than once.

What's Included

  • Training: step-by-step courses on niche selection, website building, content and SEO, plus live classes. Ippei describes Starter as including an eight-class core series and an eight-class bootcamp, with longer series on higher plans.
  • Hosting and websites: managed WordPress-style hosting with SSL and backups.
  • AI tools: AI credits for content generation, an AI article designer and the Ace assistant.
  • Research: keyword research tools, with Jaaxy access mentioned by Ippei on the top plan.
  • Community: a large member community where people answer each other's questions.

eBizFacts notes that, unlike many programs, Wealthy Affiliate does not require you to buy separate hosting or funnel software, so the membership covers most of the running costs.

The Refund Rule

This is the clearest policy we have seen on any pricing page in this niche, and it is strict. Refunds are given "only on an incident basis, when something has gone wrong with your account or your billing." The page adds that a business that has not worked out as hoped "isn't grounds for a refund." Ippei summarizes the policy as generally non-refundable, with exceptions considered case by case.

The free Starter plan is your trial. Use it to test the platform before paying, and if you choose yearly billing, be sure you will use it for the full year.

What People Like

  • A free plan with no credit card required.
  • Hosting, tools and training in one membership, with no big upsell ladder.
  • A long track record and a large, helpful community.
  • An organic, content-based model that does not need an ad budget.

Common Criticisms

  • Training depth: eBizFacts calls parts of the training outdated, with weak coverage of advanced SEO topics such as link building.
  • Self-promotion: eBizFacts says many of the most successful members earn mainly by promoting Wealthy Affiliate itself, which has made "make money online" one of the most crowded niches on the platform.
  • Lock-in: if you stop paying, reviewers report losing access to sites hosted on the platform. eBizFacts says sites can be hard to move elsewhere.
  • Hosting: eBizFacts calls it adequate but not "world class."
  • Support: Ippei notes there is no phone support.

Is Wealthy Affiliate a Scam?

No. Wealthy Affiliate has operated openly for two decades, with public founders, a clear pricing page and a free plan you can test before paying. Its weaknesses are about fit and expectations: SEO is slow, the training is not cutting-edge for advanced marketers, and leaving the platform takes planning.
